Abstract
Leaf and Skin Painting – a Method of Transferring Wall Paintings of c. 1850
As a result of the increasing mechanization by the middle of the 19th century, the newly developed work processes also started to influence the production of artworks. A remarkable technique was developed during this time period, the so called leaf painting or skin painting, a method of transferring an oil containing paint layer from canvas to plaster. This technique was tried in practical tests in the framework of the course of art technology at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts.
