This article addresses the first practical investigation of patents for the production of embossed paper-gold leather imitation wallpapers by Paul Balin, a Parisian luxury wallpaper manufacturer of the late 19th century. The entire technological manufacturing process of a gold leather imitation wallpaper from Seifersdorf Castle (Saxony) is presented, including relevant materials, tools, and methods. The evaluation of historical sources, along with the analysis of samples of original wallpapers, provided valuable insights which could be verified and supplemented by practical experiments and a successful reconstruction.
