Abstract

This essay considers the emphasis on industrial materials in the work of Carl Andre and on the forms of industrial buildings in the work of Bernd and Hilla Becher as occupying different positions within the unified ensemble of material and technical object that defines industrial production, an ensemble from which labour has been separated.
