About the Journal

From 1948 to 2023, the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte published Kunstchronik. Monatsschrift für Kunstwissenschaft, Museumswesen und Denkmalpflege in collaboration with the publisher Hans Carl in Nuremberg. Since January 2024, Kunstchronik has been published online as an e-journal in Diamond Open Access with the subtitle Monatsschrift für Kunstwissenschaft. Kunstchronik is published in 11 issues per year around the 15th of each month. The July issue is a special issue on current research topics in art history.

Kunstchronik is the only art historical journal in the German-speaking world that covers all areas of art history and its institutions in its reporting. It offers current research debates, discussions of methods, critical reports on cultural policy and monument preservation issues, conferences with innovative questions, exhibitions relevant to art historical research, new discoveries and reinterpretations of works of art, and finally discussions of current research approaches in literature reports and reviews.
