Author Guidelines

Articles may be written in Spanish, Portuguese, English or German and must not have been published previously. Please respect the editorial criteria found here.

 

Guidelines for each section:

  • Academic articles: 15 to 20 pages (about 6.000 words); abstract (maximum 150 words); maximum 5 keywords; a longer summary (about 2.000 words); illustrations (resolution 300dpi).
  • "Artworks Recalled": text of maximum 2 pages that locates the piece of art and provides bibliography; 1 to 3 illustrations of the artwork (resolution 300 dpi).
  • Documents: text of maximum 2 pages which presents the importance of the document; a complete transcription or, in case of long documents, the transcription of the most important passages; 1 to 3 illustrations of the most relevant parts of the document (resolution 300 dpi).
  • Reviews: 2-3 pages (max. 1.800 words), bibliography if necessary.

 

General instructions for the manuscripts:

  • We request citations conform to the Chicago Manual of Style (author-date-style for citations in the text, notes-and-bibliography-style for bibliography at its conclusion).   • Comments and further bibliographic information may be included as endnotes. 
  • 1,5 spaced, 12 -point
  • No formatting
  • No abbreviations: please use always the complete titles of journals, names of archives, etc.
  • Illustrations should be numbered consecutively in the text and be submitted separately(in individual archives), including a list of illustrations.
  • The manuscript submitted should include name, title, address or institution and e-mail address of all authors.
  • "Artworks Recalled": No notes or sources in the text. At the beginning: Title, artist, year, technique, dimensions,  place/depository. At the end: a short bibliography.

List of Illustrations: 

  • Contains legends and sources of illustrations.
  • Illustrations should be numbered consecutively and indicated in the text.
  • The source of its proceeding (book, photography  from museum, internet) should be mentioned for every illustration, quoted as referred in the bibliography, indication about publication rights.
  • Legends for signed artworks: artist, title, dating, location, institution, number of inventory.
  • Legends for architecture: place, object, maybe detail, dating.
  • Legends for illuminations: author, Title: representation, dating (location, Institution, signature, folio).


Prior to publication every author will be asked to sign a licence agreement.
