Special Issue: Der Weg zur Kunst. Das Hamburger Auktionshaus Hauswedell & Nolte
Over the course of its nearly eighty-year history, the auction house Hauswedell & Nolte has sold more than half a million books and autographs, works of modern art, as well as works by Old Masters and non-European art and cultural assets. Countless objects have thus found their way from Hamburg to collectors, dealers, museums and libraries in almost every corner of the world. sediment 34 sheds light on the activities and development of one of the most important German auction houses of the second half of the twentieth century. Selected examples illustrate the journeys of sold items and the various players involved in the auction process. Personal insights into the auction house are offered through interviews with key contemporary witnesses, as well as statements from art and book dealers, collectors and long-standing clients of the company. In addition, specialist contributions present the latest approaches to art market research.
